hey guys, trying to do some research on a 2001 toyota echo. customer is telling me the car has factory alarm, but does not have anti theft or power locks. just curious how to disarm the factory alarm on this vehicle. seems a little strange the vehicle with factory alarm would not have power locks. i am assuming a key sense wire or a disarm wire will be present in this car. any experience or help would be appreciated. not sure if it has keyless entry.
thank-you in advance
I would guess that they are referring to a transponder system of some sort, or a pricey cheap dealer installed ignition kill.

hey,KPierson, thanks for the reply. are you suggesting the client might have had the dealer put something in. as far as i know the car has had nothing added, and was bought new. i will check with them again, and as far as the echo goes(correct me if i am wrong) this vehicle does not have any key / transponder system.
again thanks for the help
I was politely suggesting that the client might not know what they are talking about!
Often times dealers offer 'anti theft' devices that can range from 'the club' to a basic immobilizer to a full fledged aftermarket alarm, and the dealer will sell it as an OEM dealer add on. When a customer hears the word 'anti theft' they immediately think alarm, regardless of the type of security added.
DEI's Directwire claims that there may be a hood pin, and if so it connects to the factory Theft Deterrant ECU. The Theft Deterrent ECU is under the driver side dash. However, as you mentioned, without power door locks or a remote keyfob I doubt they have an OEM system.

One thing for sure, there is no transponder in that car...
