Just a stupid question here on the 1999 it seems its easyest way to get to the main harness wires are to pull the radio real quick Correct? Also there are 2 pink wires both come on with ignition. So I used a relay to power up both wires plus the dark green. Is there any way to tell what wire goes to what of the pink wires. Most diagrams usally say 2 of XXXXXX. None say that for this year grand am. No biggie just kinda intrested. Also we had one that was a 98 with 99 ignition it was built in 08-98. Everything else was still wired as a 98 would be we did not hook up the green wire and the airbag light came on any idea on that one. we figured out the prob and fixed it. Funny though one diagram says must be hooked up to run. mmmmkkkaaaayyyy Snapper

--I believe the two pink wires are common (that is, tied together)at the ignition switch; I've always just powered up only one of them.
--The manufacture date is not a reliable way to tell a car's model year. The 10th digit of the VIN will tell you....2000 is 0, 2001 is 1, and so forth.
For pre-2000 cars, they started with the letter A in 1980, but they skipped a couple of letters like O because they look too much like the number zero.....so I forge the exact order of the letters.
Also, under the hood is a sticker about the car's emissions system-----At the bottom it says something like "the manufacturer certifies that this car meets all emissions standards for the 2003 model year." So that is another good way to tell.
--The second ignition wire on GM cars tends to power up all kinds of important stuff; it's lucky all you got was an airbag light. If the second ignition wire is missed on a fullsize GM truck, the transmission goes crazy and sets all kinds of codes.
TIP: On those Grand Ams, while you have the radio out, one of the two brown wires at the back of the radio is parking lighs.

The pinks and the oranges are in parallel. The pink is the primary ignition, and the green is the second ignition.
As far as doing the key beside the radio GM's, I pull the cluster..... it's like 6 7mm, then 2 10mm to get the key out of the dash. You can then sit in the driver's seat and wire it up quite comfortably... and get parklights at the switch right at the top of the column while you are in there.
