I recently installed a black widow keyless entry into my dad's 2003 dodge ram 1500, and now the speedometer doesn't work. I also get a parking brake, air bag, and abs light in the instrument panel. I checked the speed sensor wire wire and it is untampered. I think I might have connected the horn honk output to the wrong wire under the dash. What could I have messed up in the harness to break the VSS?

Disconnect the battery as suggested first. If you unplugged anything during the install you may have set a trouble code. Recheck that you haven't left anything unplugged or pulled too hard on a harness and caused it to unplug. Diconnect your keyless entry for now and check for any blown fuses. If you can get the truck back to normal, confirm all your wiring before plugging the keyless back in. Is the keyless entry working correctly? If it isn't then you have definetely hooked it up incorrectly. Your truck uses a one wire system. Your door lock wire is WHITE/ green in the harness coming in from the door. It uses a ground pulse through a 850 ohm resistor to lock and a ground pulse through a 400 ohm resistor to lock. You must use relays to prvide a strong ground if your keyless doesn't have built in ones. Transistorized ground outputs don't provide a strong ground for multiplexed door lock systems. Use the red wire in the ignition harness for main power, chassis for ground and the horn wire is BLACK/ red in the ignition harness. The parking lights are different between the 1500 series and 2500/3500 series. The 1500 series is a one wire system at the headlight switch. Open the purple / YELLOW wire at the switch with a relay and send a ground through a 300 ohm resistor to the truck side of the vehicle. The 2500/3500 series has a positive wire (BLACK / YELLOW) in the driver's kick panel.

Check all of the fuses, you may have blown one of the fuses that controls some of the computers. Triple check the box type fuses under the hood because when they blow there can be a hairline crack that is very hard to see.
Also make sure that you are checking your connections with a multimeter to rule out that you didn't connect the horn wire wrong. It could also be a problem with databus somewhere along the line as well.

the keyless entry works perfectly, that is the wierd part. I installed lock actuators myself so I didn't have to worry about that.
All I did was cut the starter for the starter interrup, tapped the ignition wire, tapped the parking light, and tapped the door trigger. I'll recheck all of those big fuses more closely tommorrow. I unplugged the keyless entry module from the wiring harness, and it still throws the codes. WHat freaks me out is the speedometer doesnt work, I did nothing with the VSS wire, why would it quit out on me?

Computers. All the things you listed could be linked by way of a fuse or by way of databus. So check the box type fuses very carefully. ------------- Certified Security Specialist
