Hello

I'm installing a remote start on a 2001 ford windstar. The problem is I can get the remote start to activate when the car is running beause when it's running with the key the brake signal wire has 12vts but when I remote start the vehicle I can kill the car with the brake so it works. If I unhook the brake signal wire I can activate the remote start with the vehicle running but not when connected.

Does anyone know a trick for this problem or could the switch be bad the brake lights work fine and they are not on. Also If I stick my probe in the wire the brake lights come on and my probe doesn't send out a ground or 12vt it does send out ohms I can use the probe to find the white with a green single lock wire like on a 2000+ intrepid.

Thanks

The brake switch wire that is used to kill the remote start works when you start the vehicle with the remote I can start the van and then use the pedal to kill it. If I start the van with the key I can not activate the remote start to do a pit stop because the wire that is normally open until you press on the brake pedal is now 12vt signal. I have isolated the problem by unhooking the brake signal wire that shuts the system down then start the vehicle with the key then activate the remote start and it works it will activate of course I still cant kill it with the brake have to use the remote but it works. If the vehicle is running with the key I and the brake wire is connected I can not get it to activate the wire that is used for all remote starts to kill it when it goes 12vts is now 12vlts when the vehicle is running with the key so the remote start system of course will not activate.

I have a probe Called the probe if I probe the wire with my prove the brake lights come on and I can hear a relay click some where. I have owned this probe since I started in 1999 an it has never made the brake lights come on it does have a resistor in it I know this because when I use it for testing a single wire lock/unlock where one is neg pulse and the other is a resistance well the probe sends out a resistance so every time I probe a WHITE/ green white like on a dodge intrepid to make sure I have the right wire you can hear the locks. The probe does not send out any 23vt or a ground on a resistance the value I don't know.

I read some where on the forum but lost it about needing to use a relay with the brake signal while the vehicle is running or something like but I'm unable to relocated this information. I work for Pepboys and we have installed a new brake switch as the mechanics and tech lines from other manufactures told me that it has to be the switch well I replaced and the problem remains. I had to leave the vehicle over night in the shop spent all day trying to figure this out over the phone and on the Internet .... at this point I'm lost in over 6 years I have never had this problem or been unable to finish an install I'm desperate for help. I'm suppose to call another shop in my town today to ask them I'm betting they don't know anything about as no tech has I came here because the amount of people and knowledge is greater than any one tech.

Thanks for your time.
