I'm installing a remote start in a 98 cavalier all available wiring diagrams say the start wire is yellow from main ignition switch harness the yellow wire in my car is a ground at all times the wire i've tapped into is a large gauge 10 or 12 Ga and comes from the white connector at the switch. do i have the correct info? also do i need the brown wire hooked up it has 12v at acc or on my diagram doesn't mention any brown wire any help or info would be appriciated

12 volts red+

starter yellow +

ignition 1 pink + / ignition 2 white +

acc/heater blower orange +

ground the unit to its own ground

the yellow wire tests as follows

ignition switch off 0 ohms to ground

acc 0 ohms to ground

on / run 0 ohms to ground

start 0 ohms to ground

at no time does this wire carry 12 volts

this yellow wire is not the start wire

the only other yellow wires around the ignition switch is the yellow passlock wire

Doesn't sound like you have the correct wire or someone has changed the wire
Chevy hasn't changed the color of the Starter wire for many years.........
It used to be purple in the 60's

Ignition 12 voltsPINKIGNITION SWITCH HARNESS

I figured it out the yellow wire rests at ground and i was using the start wire to bypass the pass lock through a relay. so when the ignition was on the start wire will ground out causing my passlock bypass relays to kick on all i need is a simple diode to isolate the relay from this ground and presto the relay gets 12v + when starting and nothing during run or acc anyone else using the two relay method of bypassing the passlock system will find this information usefull
