I wired up a Avital 3000 remote start to my 2005 Ram. I now am going to wire 12v+ to the parking light wire in the harness on the firewall on inside of engine bay. I would like to know which wire in that harness is for the fog lights so they can turn on also. No diagrams I have found list fog light wires.

well...im not positive what the wire color exactly is, but the best way would be to just test them. if youre going to grab the wire under the hood anyways u might as well go an extra 3 feet to the fog light and determine which wire shows 12 volts when the fogs are on. Do you plan on having the remote start turn you're parklights and foglights on or just the foglights? If you plan on running both be sure to run a relay instead of just splitting the parklight wire off the brain! good luck. ~Brandon

Thanks for the reply. The output on the RM module for parking light flash is a (-) pulse, I will use it to trigger a relay. The relay will send 12+ to the parking light wire in the large harness inside the engine bay, on the firewall. I am not wiring it directly to any lights. On the diagrams I have seen, they list a wire in this harness for parking lights. But I have not seen which wire is for fogs. My intent is to have the fogs function along with the parking lights during door lock/unlock and RM operations. I would think one relay sending (+) to both parking & fog light wires would be enough to trip the OEM relays.
The wires I will find in the harness will trip the OEM relays in the fuse block right? Or am I not thinking of this correctly? I read somewhere you can wire (+) directly to the 30 pin on the relay in the fuse block but I rather not do that, I'll just find the wires upstrem in the harness.

I can use my fog lights without having the headlights on. The parking lights have to be on though. Some vehicles are how you describe though.

The fog lights, parking lights and headlights are all controlled through the same wire at the switch. It is a WHITE/ lt. green wire. You apply a ground thru a specific resistance and the appropriate lights turn on. Parking lights are 330 ohms, while parking lights and headlights are 1100 ohms. I know I have triggered the parking lights and foglights when I used a resistor close to 330 before, but I don't know the exact value. It should be easy to figure out.
Get a bunch of resistors of different values. Keep trying different values that are in the range of 50 - 1500. At some point you will get the right combination. You don't have to worry about blowing something up if you use a wrong value. The worst that will happen is no lights will turn on or a certain combination of lights turn on. Cut the WHITE/ lt. green wire at the headlight switch. That panel with the switch pops out if you didn't know...just apply a lot of pressure from the back side until it comes out. Take a piece of scrap wire and attach it to the wire you just cut (not the side coming from the switch). Grab a resistor around 50 ohms and put it on the other end of the wire. Touch it to ground and see what happens. Keep increasing the value until the foglights and parking lights turn on. Then wire a relay as follows:
87 - ground thru the above resistor
87a - switch side of WHITE/ lt. green
87 - other side of WHITE/ lt. green
86 - constant power
85 - (-) parking light trigger from alarm.

JWorm, wow, thanks for taking the time to write that up. It makes it alot clearer. I wanted to try to wire it without messing with resistors and go straight to a + wire in the harness. If I can get ahold of an assortment of resistors I will give it a try. I just know my local radio shack won't have what I need so ill have to find another place.
Bobk, they are OEM fog lights. The way the switch is set up, you turn it once clockwise for parking lights, then again for headlights. During parking or headlight operation the switch can be pulled out to turn on the fog lights. The DOT regulations may possibly change from state to state depending on where the vehicle gets shipped to after assembly, I dunno??

I do have a multimeter. Is there anyway I can probe the WHITE/ lt green wire for the light switch, turn on the parking+fog lights, and find out exactly what the resistance is with my meter? I've never done anything like that before.

bobk, I would think the lamps conform to whatever standard they have to meet. Our 05 Dakota and 04 Caravan operate the same way as my Ram, headlights do not have to be on to use the fogs, just parking lamps.

bobk, our 04 Caravan and 05 Dakota also operate the same way as my Ram. No need for headlights to use the fog lights. However our old 98 Caravan as well as our 98 Mustang did not operate that way. Laws must have changed between now and then. Either that or the actual lamps in those vehicles had something to do with the DOT regulations.

FYI for future peoples reference...
Ok well got the fog+parking lights to work with the remote start. I wired a relay for (+) output using the (-) light flash output from the RM module to trigger it. Sent (+) to the WHITE/ lt green and WHITE/ grey wires in the harness that is at the top driverside fender where it meets the firewall. I can't remember which wire was for which, but if you want both, those are it, for a 05 model Ram at least.
