I was just thinking the other day...why don't they offer remote start as a factory option in cars?  I mean they do keyless entry now, and even some have alarms, but I've yet to see a factory remote start.  Any thoughts?

I think its a cost issue and also they know the dealers can make money off of selling them aftermarket. I would hate to see them make a factory option, could you imangine what would happen to are business? Sorry bout any spelling errorrs....

Ford offers a remote start on the new F 150 crew cabs.  Im not sure on the cost but I bet the range is awful!   Brian

They do have Factory Remote Starter available in Europe for a few years.  One day, it will be available in North America as an options.

Ford offeris it as an option on some of their vehicles in 2002-2003. I have a friend that works at the Ford dealership and he says it's a pain in the @$$ to install ( not a simple plug/play set up ) rather installing and solder connections. The range also sucks as brianh says...no better than the keyless entry from factory

I understand GM is ponying up to the technological age in 2003 and will begin offering FACTORY remote start as an option on the big lines.  I saw it when I did a search for RS information on the net.  It sounds SWEET.  TOO bad they can't make an aftermarket for those of use that already have the car!

we'll have to see if they increase the range on the OEM starters in comparison to the keyless modules they have.

They will probably work great if you were just going to use them from your house to the drive way.  As fast as this aftermarket craze is growing the big three will have trouble catching up. People want convience!.  I think folks will stay with the aftermarket brands For the price for one and the simple reason that they have been around for a while and just keep getting better.     Brianh
