I recently bought a car with a Python 1400xp Remote start installed and wanted to change it to something better such as the Python 581xp or the Viper 591xv, so i have two questions, which is "better" the Viper or Python I know they are both made by DEI. so are they identical? and when I get either one of these systems can I still use the same wiring harness from the Python 1400xp? -Fabian

Really!! is it that easy? but what if I want to have an alarm as well do I need a shock sensor? and will it just plug into it?

then you will need to get a brain that has a shock sensor input. The shock sensor is plug and play. Just hook up the door trigger and trunk trigger wires. Thats it. the 581 and 591 are r/s and keyless no alarm. You need a 791 or 771 for the alarm.

well I was wrong as to the model alarm its a 1600xp so it is an alarm and now I have a problem, the LED is one of those El stickers that say python and light up. except it doesnt even light or flash im thinking it may be dis connected but the parking lights dont do any thing either I can probably figure all that out but any suggestions are more than welcome. as far as changing my 1600xp to a responder alarm would THIS work? -Fabian

that antenna would work. For that price, maybe look at a full package viper 791xv for about 200. Then you would have everything. New module and all thw wiring. Just plug and play. You would need to just program it.
The led is a two pin plug. I dont know anything about the el stickers.
the parking lights may not be hooked up. See the white wire in the main harness and see where it goes. It may not be hooked to anything. Give some more info on the car and if anything else is not working.
Is everything working, r/s alarm and keyless?

Ok I ordered a 791xv from e-bay but I only planon using the antenna and remote for now cause the alarm I already have is fairly new so I have one more question in order to program the remote to the alarm do I have to erase all remotes first? or do I just use the programing instructions like I would any other remote? cause I dont think the one way remotes will work with the new antenna, Right? -Fabian

you will plug in the antenna and program the new remote to the antenna. Leave the old antenna in so that all you have to do is switch the antenna cable to the old antenna and it will work with the one way antenna.
You need to replace the antenna cable because for the responder it has four wires. In the one way cable, there is three wires in a four pin plug. The fourth is for the responder. The new cable is backwards compatable with the one way antenna.
if you switch antennas, you do not need to reprogram. The antenna keeps the memory of the remotes.

so I would switch antennas and cable first, then program the new antenna to the new remote and basicaly thats it. Right? but I could leave the old one way antenna in so I can switch to the old remotes any time I want, I would just have to disconnect the two way antenna and connect the one way antenna but not change the cable. Right? So is it the antenna that stores the remote info or the brain? I ask this cause I thought the remote that comes with the system is already programed to work with the system if this is true then It would be a "plug and play installation" but for some reason that does'nt sound right. Thanks for all the help. I went through the alarm and the people that installed the alarm should be shot, they didnt even solder any wires together just twisted them together and used electrical tape they used som quick splicers on some but thats about it so I pretty much re installed it myself. -Fabian

the antenna stores the memory of the remote.
switch the cable witht he foyur wires betweent he two antennas and whatever antenna is hooked up, those remotes will work either one way or two way.
depends on the install if they solder or not. it is faster not to.
so if you bought a new system and switched the antenna, the remotes would not work and have to be reprogrammed to the new antenna. So technically it would not be plug and play.

Thanks for all the help. but I have another question. I read in another post that to make a DEI siren chirp louder you can just cut the black(not black with white stripe) wire loop on the back of the siren itself. Is this correct? I just want it to chirp louder. Thanks

there is a way to cut the wires to make it louder. I have to check which wire to cut.

it is true to cut the black wire only for the delete of soft chirp.
There are 6 tones.
1,2,3,4,5,6. You can cut any of the numbers to delete that tone.
OIf you cut the BLACK/ white, you will delete tones 2-6

I have another Question but rather than start another thread I decided to ask here. Does the python 1600xp have the feature when you arm or disarm you get a "confirmation flash" from the parking lights? For example when you press the lock button the siren chirps once and the parking lights flash once, when you unlock the siren chirps twice and the lights flash twice. cause my car does chirp the siren but it does'nt flash the lights. Thank You -Fabian

it should flash and chirp once for lock and two flash and chirp for unlock.
does the lights come on flashing or constant during remote start?
how is the resoponder working for you?
are you sure you have the white wire in the main harness h1 hooked up right? check the fuse in that wire.
what type of car is this?

Yes the lights com on constant during R/S. I havent put on the responder ant yet but i will this weekend. The car is a 2006 Explorer when I bought it I had the dealer install a remote start as part of the deal only thing is they sent it to a shop and had them put it in I dont really care to take it back to that shop since they havent been able to answer any of my questions. and it seems to me they really dont know what theyre doing I have heard alot of complaints about that place from a lot of people. if it was a problem with the fuse wouldnt it be that the lights would not come on at all. also on my other car I have a prestige alarm and when I go to activate the R/S it flashes the lights and chirps the alarm once to let me know its going to start . does the python 1600xp do that? Thanks for all the help if it was'nt for this fourm I would'nt know what to do about this alarm. -Fabian

well the wire is hooked up right, i dont know why they wont flash for lock and unlock. They should, i have the viper 791 on a taurus and it flashes for lock and unlock.
The only thing is it might be a bad module.
Did you buy the while kit for the responder, the 791 system? If so, switch the modules and program the new one. See what happens.
When activating remote start, the lights will flash once to show confirmation. The siren will not chirp.

I went out and checked it and I found out that it does flash the lights and every thing its supposed to do but I had the "autolamps" on and it doesnt flash them when the headlight switch is set to auto lamps is there a way to have it work with them on? cause its a pretty good convience feature to have the auto lamps on. Other than that every thing does work as you said does your Taurus have autolamps? if it does can you try it or tell me how to wire it so it will. Thanks -Fabian

my taurus does not have autolamps. Turn off the autoplamps and put the lights on reguarly.
There might be a way, i have to look into it.
or if you want autolamps on, you just do not get the flash.
which wire to you have the parking lights hooked into?
try these
PARKING LIGHTS ( - ) GRAY (-) @ HEADLIGHT SWITCH or SJB, Connector D, Pin 3, See NOTE *1
PARKING LIGHTS ( + ) BLUE/WHITE (+) IN DRIVERS KICK PANEL or SJB, Connector A, See NOTE *1
NOTE *1 The SJB (Smart Junction Box) is part of the FUSE/RELAY BOX under the DRIVERS SIDE DASH.

i dont think that it will work because the full headlamps are on.
if you r/s the explorer, with autolamp off, the lights will flash. If you put the hreadlights on manually not autolamp, it should not flash because of the lights being on.
so there is probably no way around it.

Ya I figured, Oh well guess I wont be using the auto lamps, no biggie Thanks -Fabian

Are you using all the accesory wires for remote start? If not you could proabably find the wire feeding power to the autolamp switch circuit and tap it into the accessory wire. Then it would only come on when the key is turned on.
