Yes you can, they sell remote start only units, most alarm manufacturers have one or two independent remote start systems.  And if Im not mistaken I believe there are a few out there that are designed to be added to your factory alarm so you dont have to use two remotes.  Anyway if you post back here with your car year make and model Im sure someone can help you find out if your manufacturer has an in house remote starter, as most of the big ones do have an option for that these days.

06 Envoy.....is what he said in his post. Most manufactures have stand alone R/S. Im not sure if your talking about using the factory transmitters for the remote start ??? Astro, Compustar, DEI, and AST.  pick one!

about two days ago I put an Avital 4000 on a factory alarm.  Whatever remtoe start you get all you have to do is hook up the negative remote start input to a negative pulse (as door lock output).  With two presses of the unlock on the factory keypad, the car would start.  Actually is easy since you dont  have to mess with installing as many wires as you would a straight up remote start install.

Sorry I didnt notice the 06 envoy part of his first post, it was early (only up at that time because of a 9.a.m class).  sounds like 97f150 did what I was talking about.  I do know that GM offers at least one factory remote start system with the factory remote and everything, I actually think they have a few different ones.

I like the Pursuit As9075t. It connects to the motor legs just like a keyless uprade, so to start you press lock, unlock, lock.

Why would you want to use factory remotes?  My factory remotes barely work from my front door to my driveway.  You could go with a R/S that is capable of arming and disarming factory security.  What good would R/S be if you can't be more than 30 feet from the vehicle?

Just so you can hear something funny.
i hooked one up to a vehicles unlock wire set on 2 pulses.. heh
funny thing was when the car shut down, the doors would unlock double pulsing (thats how i set the unit) then that would trigger the remote start to start it back up.
did this kinda as a joke to one of the guys we work with.
he couldn't turn his car off for quite some time in the parking lot.
everytime.. he'd turn it off with the brake
car would shut down
doors would unlock
car would start up =)
shoulda seen his face.

I usually set it for 3 lock pulses. Don't have to worry about someone jumping in the car and trying to steal stuff. They may not be able to drive off but they can steal anything that isn't bolted down...CD's and what not. Just so you know, most newer vehicles disable the keyless entry remotes when the engine is running. So you may have to modify the wiring of the vehicle by disabling the ignition sense wire. I prefer installing aftermarket units because of the vastly improved range but some folks want that factory stealth look so they get the add-on.
