My DMM was taken by someone who decided they wanted more than me, now im looking for a new one, i only need one jsut for installing remote car starters. Any reccomendations? i don;t plan on spending alot of $$$ on one since its only for testing grounds, power and resistance, yet i kinda want an auto one.
Any ideas?

If this is for a general shop environment, just get a
bunch of these cheapies for $2.99 each and sprinkle it
around. If someone wants it more than you do, no great
loss.
It'll do pretty much all you need to do, except maybe
high current measurements beyond 10A, but it's probably a
rare occasion that you'd need that.
Test leads are short, switches are cheap feeling, and it
won't read properly when the low battery indication comes
on, but 99% of the time, it'll do the job.
If you're getting one that you can keep under lock and
key, it'd be worth it to get a nicer one, as your budget
permits- in no particular order, I like features such as
a fast continuity beeper (some have a lot of lag before
sounding off), quality silicone test leads, 20A current
range, analog bar graph for looking at fast moving
signals, on/off switch independent of measurement mode
switch (rare- I never did like the rotary switches used
for On/off, but even my Fluke 88 uses that- I just prefer
a pushbutton on switch for a quick voltage measurement
rather than having to flip the dial around every time),
frequency measurement, diode check mode (common),
selectable autorange, backlight for display,
shock resistant housing, etc..
Accuracy probably isn't an issue since it'd be rare that
you'd need more than any DMM could provide.
Harbor Freight $2.99 DMM

Wow, that $2.99 one is a sweet freekin deal! I'll get a few of those!. I think i still will end up getting a $300 meter for school tho. Im taking electrical engineering so i think i'll get a Fluke and chain it to me. The $2.99 one will do great for the 99% of the cars i do.
Thanks
