i have a 1999 dodge durango, i recently purchased the Audiovox prestige remote start and keyless entry system.  model number-aps 685.  i have read the entire installation manual and i have a couple of questions.

1. do i need to disable the factory keyless entry system to install the new one, and if so how?

2. the remote start came with a package of resistors, i have read the resistor basics page and pretty well understand it, but the install manual makes no mention of the use of these resistors.  do i need to use any of these to complete the installaion in my durango? and if so where?

3.  is there any thing else specific to this vehicle i need to know prior to installation?

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks,

donald o ward

If you have a factory alarm system than you will need to bypass it. The resisters is only for the GM vehicles to bypass the VATs and Passlock 1& 2 system. Good luck...

Check to make sure you don't have a factory alarm. If the factory alarm is triggered it disables the starter so you should check. On the dash, right above the Tach pin there is a "SECURITY" light for the alarm. If you have a factory alarm it will flash after you arm the alarm. To check close all the doors and then lock them using the key fob, this activates the alarm if you have one.
