My friend purchased an Avital 4000XL as a XMAS present for her mother. I stopped by Best Buy today and was told that it would require a 456L (door locks) and a 457GW (passlock). I looked up the 457GW it says that it is a 555 and a 456 combined. What is needed to install the 4000XL in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am?

The 457g can't control the door locks on a 99 grand am. That's why they're saying you need a 456l. How ever you can use 2 relays and a 1500 ohm resistor in place of the 456l. A lot cheaper option. So get a 451m, most places charge 20-25 bucks for that, and it should come with the resistor you'll need to do you're locks.
