If I need to ground a wire can I use a bolt on the door? I think so but I think maybe this would not work because the hinges would be insulated from the chasis by the hard rubber discs that ride on.

all the body and doors are common ground. chassis always better of course. as you stated more stuff inbetween the two points. but they are bolted directly to the chassis and will carry a ground and fine for 20 to 30 amp of draw. hopefully you don't want to pull anymore than that.

Most car companies run a ground in the door for windows and stuff. The door itself is usually not a good ground for the reason Bob said. Even a hing with no plastic bushing will not let s good gound thru, just like a trailerball. What kind of car are you looking for ground in?

well if you read my post i stated that chassis is always better of course. but there is ground in the doors as mike m2 said. it will also vary from car manufature to manufacture on there style of mounting doors. and if they bring ground into the door.

if you are running something in the amp range of 20 - 30 amp it would be fine if the door is grounded. thats what i was saying. but by far you would not ground an amplifier or some device that would pull a huge current through the ground.

Basically don't ground window modules inside of a door if that is what you are thinking. Infact don't put them inside doors either.
