what would happen if you didn't use a relay to power the second starter wire on these cars and just wired them both from the one wire

What would happen?...it would work perfectly.

BLACK / YELLOW and BLACK/ White are already wired together inside the ignition switch. In most older Nissans that's NOT the case, but for the the '05 Sentra, you'll be fine.

I thought the 2nd starter wire powered up with ignition and stayed powered up till cranking was done, thats how it tested on the last 5 or so nissans i have done, it should be separated from my experience, if it were the same thing they would only have 1 wire in the first place.

at least isolate the wires

The reason I ask is because this is how I wired it (tied them together without relay, didn't have one at the time) now the owner just called me and said his vehicle won't start, keyless doesn't work, won't start with the key. Now the only thing that I can think of that would cause this is
Either the bypass that I used, which is a 791, the one that requires the transponder key, maybe its seeing 2 keys or something, or having those 2 starter wires tied in like that damaged something or blew a fuse. Now the vehicle is like 400km away from where I am now so I can't test anything I was just wondering if someone came across something similar. The remote start was one of those crappy bulldog modules, just rs and keyless...basic model

Also, it worked fine for about a month...I wonder if it has factory alarm...didn't check that, it was a quick install...hmmm

I would ask the owner to see if the security light is the dash is flashing when he inserts the key into the cylinder. If so, then the system is seeing two keys and not starting.

If this is not the case, then I would separate the two starter wires from each other. If the car doesn't start with the key, then there's a problem with the Immobilizer kicking in.

One more thing. If the security light is coming on how could I solve that issue.... what would be a better bypass unit, or is there a better way to hook it up and how do you reset it again.

Don't know about the Sentra, we've always used a separate relay(and frankly, not using one is a backyard way of installing it!). On a Camry if you tie both starter wires together(or even diode isolate them) the car will work fine for about a month, then blow the AM1 fuse in the car. It's possible a fuse blew for the ignition in the Sentra which is one main fuse under the hood rated at 40a. You need to find out whether the dash lights come on(a sign of something else like the immobilizer not working correctly) or not(a power problem on the main power lead to the switch).

the bypass should have a keysense wire should be green - or purple + if you used the 556u or 556uw you would need the purple + wire and conect it to the blue/white + keysense wire in the ignition harness
this will cut off the bypass mod when the key is inserted into the key cylinder
hope this help

yeh? i can do that?

see! told ya!

feenal,

The security light would light up and stay on if there was a malfunction code tripped within the Nissan NATS system. The only way to read the from NAT is with the Nissan Consult II tool, which you won't have access to unless you were a dealership or worked for Nissan.

But what's definitely apparent is that the NAT system is in what's called "LOCK MODE", which prevents the car from starting when the following conditions are seen:

1) unregistered ignition key is used to try to start the car 5 times ore more
2) IMMT or ECM unit is bad.

My guess is that the bypass unit you used in the alarm went bad, or malfunctioned some how. Here's what you tell the customer to get his car running and out of LOCK MODE...

1) Turn ignition off
2) Turn ignition on with registered key (Do not start engine). Wait 5 seconds.
3) Return key to off position.
4) Repeat steps 2-3 twice (total of three cycles)
5) Start Engine.
6) Tell him NOT to use the remote start at all until he's able to take the car back to you and you can check out the bypass unit.

Hope that helps.

thanks for the reply's guys, alot of good info....now the customer has informed me(brother in-law, not a big deal) that the vehicle's battery was dead....he charged it an haven't had a problem since....again I wasn't there to check it out myself, dead battery is the first check....but anyways I am headin down his way this weekend, what would be the chances that the remote start would cause a constant draw on the battery...I will check it when I get there..just curious...he knows nothing about cars so thats why this proccess was so difficult...thanks again for the reply's.   Great web forum guys
