I have a 94 chevy caprice with an audiovox remote start system installed,I believe it's the 995 model.anyway the problem started a little while back and I didn't think much of it but I'm more concerned now.when I remote start sometimes it starts up just fine and other times regardless if it's cold or hot outside it will start but it seems like the starter does not disengage and makes this loud grinding noise until either it turns off itself or I turn it off.I thought it may be because of the cold but I have heard it do this in the middle of the summer before too.any help would be appreciated.
It is most likely a tach wire issue or tach programming. In the engine compartment can you see where there might be a wire running to the coil or fuel injection wire? If there is then most likely the tach sense is hooked up and the tach sense needs to be re-learned..
Well it could be a ignition switch contact problem if the problem occurd again try to turn the ignition switch while the starter still engage to see if the problem will be solved.
the unit may be utilizing the tachless, voltage sensing setting to tell the remote starter when to stop cranking. this is easier for the installer, but less accurate. If you don't see a wire ran under the hood going to the engine (ignition coil or injector), it's running in tachless mode. The best way to cure this problem is to hook up your tach wire. either goto audiovox website to refer installer to or download install manual to tell you what wire is the tach wire off the unit, run that wire to the ign coil. there should be two wires, hook to side that's not 12 volt switched power. tape up good and solder
