OK so last week I installed a audiovox prestige platnium aps685 with a dei 455t door lock interface into my 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Everything worked great untill 2 days ago. Now I have intermitment door lock operation. its really odd... If the Jeep is sitting for a while the locks lock and unlock fine a long with the arm and disarm of the factory alarm and on/off of the dome light(all controlled by the DEI). When I hooked up the DEI I hooked it up for all doors unllock in 1 step vs the factory 2 step. Everything worked fine for a few days and still works fine if the Jeep is remote started when I lock or unlock but otherwise when the Jeep has been running and I park it, shut it off and exit, hitting the lock button only arms the alarm and shuts off the dome... it does not lock the doors....and hitting the unlock shuts off the alram and turns on the dome light but does not unlock the doors..... at the same time if I remote start the jeep then the locks will work..... or if I let it sit for about 5 minutes it will be ok again... I can't figure if my problem will be in the remote start or the 455t... any thoughts?? thanks -Jeff

Just for kicks..... try grounding the OEM DISARM wire permanently by splicing into this wire and running a temporary ground to chassis and see if this problem is still there after you do this. Shot in the dark, but it's worth trying. Otherwise you may have a defective 455T module.

OK so I tried a number of things including grounding the wire, didn't work. What I did learn is that my remote start is functioning properly and that when the locks stop working I can get them to work by remote starting or turning the igniton to on.(power at the 455t was constant). Tried a number of things but still after it ran for a while and was shut off, the locks would not operate. I thought mabye that the line of power I tapped for the 455t possibly dropped in voltage after the engine was shut off. So I have hooked it to another source and the locks have worked 3 times now. but it also worked fine for a week.. just have to wait and see... will keep you all posted thanks -Jeff

Ok well strike that, it didn't work for long. It seems that after about a 10 minute drive the locks just won't work. But again if I turn the key to on or remote start it will work .... or wait about 5 mintues and it will work. I can only guess that it is a messed up dei 455t. anybody think i should contact dei first of just get an exchange? thanks -Jeff

what is your overhead programmed to ? i have had the same problem with 98 and back g. cherokee you need to go to the step program and switch to all door unlock on first press of remote. .also eliminate horn chirp.

Overhead? In the jeep it self or on my audiovox? The audiovox is programmed to 1 step thanks -Jeff

Anybody know what securinu was talking about? Is he refering to the Jeeps factory keyless entry? or the remote start? I've checked and double checked and its clear the the dei box just won't unlock the doors after the ignition has been on for 10 minutes or more.... but it still arms, disarms dome on/off and moves memory seat 1. thanks -Jeff

OK so I just read in the owners manual that the factory keyless can be programmed for 1 or 2 step locks and that the horn can be programmed to chirp. the default its 2 step and no chirp. To change it it says that you have to go to the dealer. I don't want to have to do that. Anyone know how? -Jeff

OK here's another thought. The audiovox pulses a negative for lock and + for unlock on one wire and negative for unlock and positive fopr lock on the other wire. Could the postive pulse cause the unit to screw up? thanks -Jeff
