Hello,

I just bought a 1994 K2500 Chevy Pickup Truck that has a Viper 600 esp alarm with remote start. The alarm came with 2 remotes.

The previous owner said he was walking out of the bank one day, and the truck was running and he did not start it, so he "took it to the place it was installed and had them disconnect the remote start." Does anyone know they "typical" way this would be done so I can turn that function back on... or do I have to retrace all the wiring?  Honestly, I am not even sure if the remote start was an add-on to the viper 600 esp or is it was separate and is totally gone now!

I do have the user manual for the Viper 600 esp, and I downloaded the install manual online (https://www.the12volt.com/downloads/file.asp?ID=256).  The truck currently locks about 3 seconds after the ignition switch is turned on. I read the installation a little closer, and I think I see how to make the ignition switch not lock the doors (Pages 29-32).

I went out and verified that my system enters "Valet" mode manually by having the toggle switch facing toward me, so I assume the Valet Switch is ON in this direction. So it is OFF facing away from me.

Also, I was able to arm the system, and heard the alarm chirp, so I know the alarm siren is working.

Having done this, I did what the manual said to keep the door locks from locking when the ignition switch is turned on:

1.) Open door
2.) Turn ignition on, then back off.
3.) Flip Valet switch to on and HOLD (it is a maintained toggle switch, so it stays "Held." )
4.) After three seconds, the alarm is supposed to chirp once, indicating that the alarm has entered Basic Features Menu #1.

At this point, the alarm does not chirp.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Daniel

Hello,

I originally posted a few days ago that my new (to me) 1994 K2500 Chevy truck had a Viper 600 ESP.  It does not.  I believe it just a Viper 600.

However, the yellow wire (+12V ignition wire) is the same in both alarms.  So, to keep the Viper 600 from seeing the ignition turned on, I cut the wire, so that me or my wife will not lock ourselves out of the truck.  (I could see this happening if we go out to warm it up, start it, the doors lock, and we shut the door without remembering to cycle the locks to unlock before we shut the door).

It looks like the the Viper 600 HF system (the only other similar alarm I could find an install manual for) that there is a jumper on the "brain" that has to be put into the "Learn" mode before cycling through the menus with the valet switch and the remote transmitter.  Once in the menus, the setting can be changed to lock the doors with the ignition or not.

Anyway, I am only using the Viper 600 as a fancy remote door unlocker.  I am not actually arming the system, the remote starter was disconnected by the previous owner, so I really do not need the ignition wire (yellow) feeding the system.

If anyone has a link to an install manual for the Viper 600, please let me know.

Thanks!

Daniel
