Do you know if the Prestige alarm system has a wire on the harness that will allow you to disarm the system or impact sensor prior to remote start ? If it does not then you will need to interrupt the IGN wire or impact sensor on the alarm system so you don't trigger the system into full alarm when remote starting. Also, what remote start are you trying to install.

You may want to replace the Prestige alarm with an all in one alarm/remote starter unit. You can simply use all the alarm wiring and hook it into the newer unit. If you don't you will either have to use two remotes (one for each system) and use relays to interface the two or use a free channel on the alarm to activate the remote starter. Unfortunately, the alarm's transmitter range usually isn't all that good when this is done. If you opt for this method, you need relays to open the ignition and shock sensot triggers to the alarm while under remote start.

It's a lot less of a hassle in the long run to pull the thing out and start fresh with a combo unit, and the difference in cost is pretty small.

Look around at the pricing----you'll pay around $30-40 more for an alarm/start combo, than just a remore starter.

I'm suggesting that you buy ONE unit that is an alarm and a remote starter all in one......remove what you have, and give it to a friend, put it in another car, get a couple bucks for it on eBay or whatever.

If you want to add a remote start to the alarm you have...........first, you're looking at extra wiring just to keep the alarm from going off when the remote start kicks in.

Also, you'll have either two separate remotes to carry around, or you can do the remote start using the remote you have now....... but the range is very poor.

If you look on eBay, for example, at Audiovox/Prestige product........ a remote starter will cost you around $70, or an alarm/starter around $100. (That's assuming you have the ability to install it yourself.)

I just looked at the manual for the APS155CH and no, it is not capable of remote starting your car.  The dark blue (channel 2) wire is only capable of triggering a remote start unit.  Most R/S systems have a (-)trigger wire that will start the remote start sequence.  If you had a remote start, and wanted to trigger it with channel 2 on your alarm, you would hook those two wires together.  I also dont see how you could arm this system from an external source, such as a R/S.  I would definitely replace it with a R/S/Alarm combo unit rather than trying to interface this with a R/S.  Also, you'll have a lot more range than 100 feet.

You can do it whatever way you want.

Yes, the "aux" output from your alarm can trigger ANY external device you want, including a remote starter.

Here are the issues you're going to have to deal with:

--A regular alarm is not a long-range system. What's your range, maybe 30-50 feet? Can you operate the alarm from inside your house?

--The alarm most likely has a shock sensor. When the car starts, it'll shake, and the sensor will make the alarm go off.

You can turn the sensor all the way down, unplug it, or configure a relay so that the sensor will not be allowed to work when the remote starter is on......but there you have more work, plus you'll have to buy the relay.

--When the ignition is on, the alarm's remotes won't work. Some remote starters have an output to "fool" the alarm into thinking the ignition is off........ others don't, and there's another relay you'll have to buy.

Yes it would probably work fine, with range issues.  Your alarm does not have the range that would be greatly appreciated when trying to remote start your car from work, school etc.

Explain what? How to install the entire thing, or why the range will be poor?

Any remote start you buy will have an install manual.  There is no 'generic' way of installing these as every car, and every remote start system is different.  If you are that unsure of how to do it, you are probably better off to pay someone to do it, or have a friend with some knowledge of car electronics help you.  Installing one of these things without having any clue as to what you are doing is a recipe for disaster.
