2001 Dodge Dakota Quad-cab
Not sure if my problem is with my Viper systems remote start or something else.
Here's the problem;
I have a Viper 550 ESP with remote start. I recently replaced the existing Pioneer head unit with an Eclipse head (has MP3 playback). The Pioneer was working fine prior to the new install, after the Eclipse install, the head unit is hot all the time, won't shut off with the key.
Guys at the shop who installed the head were stumped.
I bought the truck used with the Viper installed so I do not know if there was something custom done to the Viper install.
Any ideas on where to start ?
thanks !

what I would do is pull the head unit and make sure the acc (red) wire is only getting power when the ignition is on.  if this is not the case, say it's hot all the time then what I would suggest is check the ignition harness where the alarm is hooked to and insure that you don't have a power wire tapped somehow into the ignition.

Sounds like the wire lead on the head unit thats supposed to be receiving a switched power source is receieving constant power.  Just test the red wire on the head unit and if it reads 12v when the car is off, u know its wrong
