I am working on a 2000 S class mercedes and intalling the lighted door sills. I need a constant 12v and a ground which is triggered when the door opens.  When I pulled out the  door pin switch and put a meter on it I have continuity to ground when I push the switch the gound is broken.  However when I tapped into the pin switch wire and tried the lighted sill when I release the switch it does light up but when I push the switch insted of the sill going out as I expected it only gets dimmer not out. I check the voltage on the ground wire when it is pushed in and I get 1v.  I  am stumped.  Would a diode help? Thanks for any replys

try this, wire a relay with 87 as ground 85 as 12v 86 to the pin switch and 30 the the ground for the lights which should only give a ground pulse to the lights when the door is giving off a true ground I'm pretty sure that 1volt shouldn't be enough to trigger the relay when the pin switch is in. let me know how it works out!

Use the dome lights for your signal. If you are putting them on the front rear doors then use the both dome lights for each pair of sills. Front and rear dome lights work seperately
