Looking at the wire digram for the car that I will be installing it says to use a 1k resistor so I went down to radio shacks to get. My problem is there are more than one 1k resistor each one had a different number for watt and tolerance. So which one should I get?

Does the wiring diagram say what wattage is recomended?

If it does not say, then a 1/4 watt resistor should be fine. As for the tolerance, I do not think that a close tolerance resistor is needed. Do not worry about tolerance.

Normally a ¼ watt resistor at 5 % is good enough ( GOLD band as final color )
