Just wondering what the average alarm with door unlock system runs at. I am troubleshooting a friends battery drain and see his alarm is running roughly at 280 milliamps and I thought it was high. Just wanted to confirm before I move on.

If you're saying it draws 240mA while just on standby, then that's too much.
Normal limits should be 35mA; you can get away with more if the car is regularly driven, but 240mA would be too much.
If the setup has all sorts of active sensors like radar, ultrasonic, etc, it'll draw more, but it sounds like his alarm might be improperly set up and has a relay active even on standby. 240mA is in the range of a relay coil being energized, so I'd check for that first.

It was showing a steady 200mA + draw at all times and I thought it was definately excessive being the shade tree mechanic that I am. You just confirmed my suspicions.

In the Netherland, to receive a certificate for assurance purposes, the alarm is required to draw less than 30mA when it's armed. I'm sure similar requirements are made in other countries and all major brands will want to be certified. So this is a pretty good max value you'll want to see.
