Installed a cheap R/S in 02 S-10 pickup. It remote starts and runs, but the security light constantly stays on. It does not go off when inserting the key and hitting the brake either. When starting with the key, no security light issue.

The R/S is a NAPA unit. (It does not have an actual ignition 2 ouput or a security disarm output). It does have a negative output wire that stays negative while in remote start mode that I am using to power a relay (to reverse polarity) that I tied to the ignition 2 wire in the S-10. It SEEMS to work ok. The R/S negative output wire is also tied to the bypass as the disarm wire.

I'm using a Bulldog 791 self-learning bypass.

It remote starts ok, but will not ALWAYS start on the 1st try - but always starts ok and stays running on the 2nd attempt.

Any suggetions on how to improve the 1st try startup and eliminate the security light on issue will be appreciated.

Im sure you know what your doing, but Why? How much did those units cost you?

You shou1d bypass the key the old way rather than use the bulldog. I think its the bypass unit not working.

Then you can see whats working. **Make sure the 2nd IGN is working good.** Then hook the bulldog back up and work from there.

            Hope that helps ya

Joe,
Yes, the S-10 pickup has an OEM security system.
Thanks for sending me the OEM disarm wire.
The diagram I downloaded from the Bulldog site
(directwholesale.com) shows:
OEM Disarm     N/A
Looks like they missed that one (and so did I).
I think this will solve the problem. I'll let you know.

And Mike,
regarding:
"the cheap R/S and Bulldog 791 self-learning bypass."

They were Christmas gifts given to my customer from her parents. I run a small shop and an electrical contracting business. Work in my area is a bit slow. ALthough I would prefer not to do these types of installs, work is work.

By the way, I've had no problems whatsover with any of the 791 bypasses I've previously installed.
