I am trying desperately to figure out how to change the manual locks in my 2004 focus to power locks. I got an alarm with keyless entry installed and the installers said they don’t know how the cable system works so they couldn’t hook up any actuators and give me lock and unlock. Has anyone been able to figure this out?

That's a tough one. I can tell you what we do with Nissan cable typr locks, we buy factory latch assemblies that have the actuator already on it. They ain't cheap but it's an easy solution. We end up soldering wires to the plug and use a set of relays. Why not check at the ford dealer and see if you can do the same?

Or rip some out of a junked car. They should all be the same from 2000 and up. Should have no problem finding a junked Focus. I had one until recently but traded it for a new one. Yes I am a glutten for punishment.

I did this on my friends 2002. All I did was cut the black "sleeving" off half an inch about and attached the actuator like regular. Works fine. Originally it worked, but it was setup a weird way and it wouldnt allow u to manually lock and unlock the door, but then i messed with it a bit and it works perfecty.. If it was my car i would post pic of it

from what tbone587 posted, I tried this in a customers car and it did not work, there was no tension there for it to work, then I couldn't open the door from the inside with the shielding cut, had to order a new one

Trust me it can be done, i hope on account of me u didnt mess it up. I used little metal braces to keep the tension, its kind of hard to explain... The only way to really show would be to take a pic

I havent tried anything yet. I am nervous about it. I was looking at it today as I installed some speakers and I just dont know. I was thinking I get get an extra set of cables and work on those. See how far I get and swap it out. Does anyone know where those cables connect to? The guy at the ford dealership said it connects up in the dash and that some of the dash wiring is interconnected! He said if I wanted to get that new it would be $500+. Then again where I live if you dont drive an F-150 they dont know how to help you.

MICRO sells a # AFDLWIRE Attachment Bracket that enables you to add actuators on Cable Systems...........They work GREAT......
I use them on sloppy cables that I can't hook actuator anywhere else on door locks

No No No, you didn't cause this, I tried this on a focus about 2 months ago, long before the thread was started, but I could never get it to work properly

This is a cable locking system upgrade that is available here in the uk. They dont list one for a ford focus but it could be adapted to work on one.
