Hi, I just got an alarm (Thank you Rob @ Forbidden!!!!) , and I'm not sure what Passive arming is. It doesn't mention it in the manual, only Auto mode (it arms if the doors are closed, remote is 50/100ft away from vehicle). What exactly is passive arming, then?

You did not mention what make or model this alarm is. But passive arming is the same as auto-arming. Usually anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes after you turn ignition off, the system will arm itself. Active arming requires that you press the arm button on the remote. ------------- Keith

bob some of the compustar systems have an arming and disaming feature that arms and disarms the car when the remote is in or out of a certain proximity i think this is what he was discribing above.
passive arming is the same as auto arming and auto rearming is when you unarm and don't enter the car its will rearm after a set period of time

This is the problem, the compustar manual sucks :p I already found one inconsistency in the prog menu.... About passive arming, the only time it mentions that is when it explains the LCD and the way to turn it on/off. Auto Arming is also called Auto Lock/Unlock, and it says : When auto arming is set, your security system will arm automatically after (1) all the doors are closed, (2) your remote is ay from the vehicle by more then 50-100 feet, and (3) 15 seconds have passed since the last Auto Disarm. Your system will disarm automatically if your remote comes within a 50 to 100ft radius from the vehicle. I find it odd that both passive arming and Auto arming are mentioned (they have their own LCD spots on the remote)\, but only Auto Arming is mentioned. Even better, on the compustar website, the manual there is different from the one in my hand, and doesn't even mention the auto arming section at all!!!

Dani, look at the two way remote, does it have the the "passive" icon lit up? If it does the alarm will auto arm itself. You have inadvertently pushed two buttons at the same time without knowing it. Flip over the remote and look at the back. There is a crapload of basic instruction there. To turn of "passive" push button #2 and #3 both at the same time for a fraction of a second. The remote should beep and the icon should turn off. PS, how are your ears......2400w rms + Titanium 12's + Epicenter = kaboom. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

The second function that was talked about is called autolocks which we generally leave turned off. It is highly anooying as you are most often within proximity of your vehicle. Here at the store if I have autolocks turned on, my truck locks and unlocks all day long as the remote is right on the barrier of the range where it can detect the remote control. It was programmed off originally and should still be off right now. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.

So passive, what does it do???.....is that basically like the auto Lock, just without the unlock part? As in, the car is off, doors are closed, and i'm such and such range away? And my ears...let's just say working that night sucked...i had to walk right up to people to hear them :p

Passive means that after a predetermined amount of time with the trigger points closed (ie: doors) and keys out of ignition, the unit will automatically lock the doors and arm. This is also a great way to lock your keys in the vehicle, so turn off the passive function. This is entirely different than the auto function that works on the proximity of the remote to the vehicle. PS...Don't forget that I'll be in Victoria on Saturday for my appointment with the voodoo machine and the RCMP. I think your buying lunch that day.....haha. ------------- Top Secret, I can tell you but then my wife will kill me.
