Hi all,

I was just wondering what is best for security.. I see that you can buy some alarms that use the key fob that comes with the car.  How secure are these?  Can they be scanned easly?  Do you recommend buying an alarm that comes with fobs, and stop using the fob that came with the car?

The alarm I am think of is a Toad A850.  What do you think of this alarm? How hard is it to install?

Thanks

John

not a big fan of toad myself..

depends on how much you wanna protect your car as to weather you would wanna use the original fobs.. most of these are basic alarms nothing too fancy..

if your looking for a high end security system go with a seperate unit..

The factory keyless entry has a lot of little extras, like driver's-priority unlocking, horn-honk with lock, domelight turn-on with unlock, and a separate panic button.

You can add all of those features to the remote of an aftermarket alarm, but it does add quite a bit of work.

On the other hand, a unit with its own remotes can have other features such as a 2-way paging remote, or a remote starter.

I install plenty of factory-keyless-upgrade systems; they are very reliable and easy to use.

I use the Audiovox PRO-9232A, but DEI's Automate AM1 or Hornet 700T will also do nicely. I don't believe the DEI units come with a siren, although you can still connect one.
