I've got a Mercury Cougar 5 spd with an Autostart, and the problem is it will not always go into "setup" mode. Checked the tach signal, it is fine, checked the handbrake connection, it is fine, we can usually get it to work in the shop, but when the customer goes away, the problem rears its ugly head again. Has anyone done of these car with manual transmission and had similar problems? Oh yeah, we've also diode isolated the brake wire.

I had a couple of manual Cougars in this year and one in on Monday coming up. The problem I had with the vehicle is the door trigger's and where they were located according to the wire diagrams that I had. Diode isolate each of the triggers and also had some problems with the door lock wires and locating them as well. Finally found them in a loom up high in the driver's kick panel between the sound deadening material and the kick panel.

Is the customer allowing enough time between each step of ready mode ?

so you're saying I should diode isolate the doors? I don't understand why it will work sometimes and not others. Weird problem.
