While I was installing an autostart i was testing for the tach output at the distributor. I grounded the wire through me and possibly shorted something. The check engine light is now on and the car starts and runs for a few seconds and then DIES. The more I try to start it the shorter time it will run before it dies again. If I rev the engine slightly the engine will keep running, but if I let go of the gas, it dies. If anyone has ever done this while looking for the tach output. Please help, tell me what I might have done to my car. Thanks. Neil

What kind of car? I've found on some cars, GM and Chrysler esp. that they need to be driven to a high speed say 55 mph to reset some things. Let us know what kind of car first though.

I unplugged the passenger side airbag but then plugged it back in. I also unplugged the wire that leads to the diagnostics input on the front panel of the lower dashboard. Tried plugging that back in and nothing. I have already tried detaching the battery and reseting the computer, I'm afraid i may have shorted the computer or something in the distributor possibly.
