My girlfriend has a 97 prelude, with the factory alarm.  She only has one key, we had another one made just in case she ever locks her keys in the car, but is there any way to disable the alarm/transponder system?  I would like to be able to use my key to start the vehicle, but i do not have a transponder for it either, so if i unlock the car with the key, the alarm goes off.  We would just like to completely get rid of it/unplug the alarm, but i am very unfamilar with hondas.  I do have a electronic background, so if somebody knows anything, please let me know.  Thanks!!!

Are you planning on installing another alarm?

I just looked at the wiring for that year, and it doesn't show a factory alarm. Are you sure it wasn't added on?Does it have a flashing led? If so,you can try starting from the led and trace the wires back and see where they end.If you find a module, unplug it and see if your still able to start the car..If not, then it's built in.

I don't believe there is factory alarm on a 97 Prelude. Reading from your post it sounds like you have an aftermarket alarm. The easiest way probably is buy a new remote ( I believe you refer to it as transponder) and have it program. Otherwise look underneath the dash for the module and disconnect the power source.

Be careful whose advice you buy, but be patient with those who supply it.posted_image

it has a flashing led on the center of the steering column and if you lock it with the keyless entry remote, then try to unlock the door with a key, the alarm goes off.  As far as we know its a factory alarm system.  I believe the remote says honda on the back of it or something too, its the same as all other prelude remotes, so i dont know.  I'll have to trace back the led and see where it goes
