i have a 98 sonoma 5 speed that i would like to install an audiovox ax901 remote start. i am trying to find out if antone knows if this truck has any kind of sensors that know if the transmission is in gear or if its in neutral to use as a neutral safety switch. i know i could use the e-brake wire which is neg. trigger but the e-brake isn't to strong so it would probably roll even with the brake on. i've put a viper 550esp on a 5 speed toyota i had by just bypassing the clutch trigger button but this time i want something a little more failsafe. thanks for any help or feedback.

If you have half a brain You will use a remote starter that is made for manual transmission vehicles. These starters make it impossible to leave the car in gear and remote start it, provided they are installed correctly. This isnt ment to be a shot at you or anything, Im just saying that putting a automatic starter into a manual vehicle is about the dumbest thing a installer can do.

got to agree.  You are only asking for trouble if you use the automatic in a standard setup.  Get the e-brake fixed(likely cable just needs adjusting) and put in a proper manual transmission r/s.

Hopefully he's not doing it at work either bestbuy tends to take a very dim view of installers that put r/s's in manual vehicles.

That's a possibility.  I mean hell there's bb's in texas and arizona that do window tinting.  As for the r/s in a manual, you guys have manual designed rigs? if not how is that being done safely

We sell manual starters. There is no way we would be doing them if the starters werent designed for it

I wouldn't advise putting a remote starter on a manual transmission. No way in hell I would do it.

wait so putting automatic RS systems in Manual transmission cars is illegal?? Im in Southern California, ne1 know if that applies here??? just curious, because there is a way to make manual safe with automatic RS units if you know what you are doing. My car didn't have a neutral sensor, so I put one in so now it will not start if the e-brake is not up and if it is in gear or hood is up.  all these need to have broken ground and it will start, if not no way it will start.
