Morning,
I bought my sister a remote start (Avistart 2400) for her 2004 Nissan Pathfinder (Platinum Edition, if it matters). I've done some research on this forum and it looks like there are a couple things preventing me from getting this project started:
1) It seems like this car has a Transponder Anti-theft system. Which means I need a bypass module. Where can I find one of these and what kind do I need? Will the local alarm place have one?
2) Since Nissan's have a two wire ignition system, I understand that I need a relay to energize the second wire. What relay do I need and where can I find it? Local Radio Shack or some place more specialized?

1) The local alarm shop should have one, or you could by a unversal one at a big box store like Wal-Mart. Another place would be bypasskit.com. 2) You will only need a separate relay for ign 2 if the 2400 doesn't already have one for it. Any 30/40A SPDT relay will do. Also note that the truck has two accesory wires as well. ------------- Keith

1. There are MANY versions/brands of the standard spare-key-in-the-box bypass module.
Popular models are the DEI (Directed Electronics) 556U, the older 555U, Audiovox AS-TCBM, and the Trilogix (bypasskit.com) TBKIII.
All of the above-mentioned units require that you permanently install one of your sister's spare keys inside the box.
If your sister plans to have extra keys made for the car, do it BEFORE installing the remote start-----also, you must bring ALL existing keys to the dealer or locksmith.
You might hunt around at www.bypasskit.com and see if they have a no-key-required bypass for that car. Usually, the installation is more involved, and the product is more expensive---you can decide which way is a better deal.
2. It's two starter wires you're talking about, not two ignition wires.
The Pathfinder will have the following wires at the keyswitch:
--Constant power
--Ignition: Shows power in Run and Start; this is what makes the engine run
--Accessory-HVAC: Shows power in Run only; this is what makes the climate controls work.
--Accessory-Radio: Shows power in Accessory and Run; this is what makes the radio work. (You do not need to power this wire during remote start---I never do.)
--Starter (two separate wires): Each of these two wires will show power in the Start position; you need to trigger both of them.

Possible solutions:
1. Simply take the single starter output from the remote start, and connect it directly to the car's two starter wires.
It is the "wrong" way to do it, as Nissan probably designed the car with two separate starter wires for some good reason.
However, many professional installers do it all the time, without problems.
2. Purchase a separate relay to trigger the extra starter wire. Just an ordinary automotive relay, which is called a SPDT (single-pole, double-throw).
You can buy a raw relay, and get your own scrap wire and some female crimp-on connectors, and make up the wiring yourself......or you can buy a relay with wires already plugged into it......whichever you like better.
The installation instructions for the remote starter should show you how to configure the relay.
3. Your Avital unit, are all of the wires coming from one box, or is there a separate "XCRS" relay pack?
If you become familiar with the operation of relays, and you learn how the ribbon cable between the main brain and the relay pack works.....
You can then re-configure the ribbon cable so that the Accessory relay gets triggered during crank INSTEAD of as an accessory wire........since you don't need to power up the radio anyway........just "steal" that relay and use it as your second-start output.
