Subject: clifford remote re-programming

I purchased a 1999 suburban which came with a clifford alarm system. I do not know the model # . It has the carbon fiber looking remote with the diagram of a vehicle in the window . I have purchased a second remote w/out the display, just three buttons ...lock,unlock and remote start.

every so often my remote becomes unprogramed....I take it to the local shop the tech holds it under the dash area for a few seconds and comes out with it working.

Can anyone tell me how to reprogram the remote myself . It appears like a simple procedure however the techs are reluctant to give out the info.             Thanx in advance

I too would be interested in this...I installed the Cliffford RSX 3.5 myself and am having a similar or the same problem after about 2 years of good working order.  I lost my installation manual and Clifford took them off of their website. Anyone have to .pdf version of it by any chance? Thanks.  Good luck hrennert

if it is a Responder unit there is only one compatible 1-way remote... part # is 472X... it is a 4-button companion remote.....no other 1 way remote is compatible with the FM Responder units ( RSX3.5 or RSX1.5)

if, however it is the RSX10.5 which is the new "Responder Looking" units which are an AM unit, then any of the newer 4 button Clifford remotes will work with it......

Thanks for responding Kevin

My teardrop shape carbon fiber looking remote works fine when it works

I think maybe when I toss it in my pocket with my other keys the buttons get pressed randomly or simultaneously get held down and It loses programing. can you tell me how to re-program the unit ?

what model of unit do you have?      BTW, they dont "lose programming" by having the buttons pressed randomly or together.....  the shop you take it to may be simply unplugging the antenna for a minute or two and re-plugging it in, allowing it to re-synch to the unit... you may want to try that next time it acts up.....

Kevin

I know for certain it is not the antenea that is being disconnected and re connected.

Assume you lost your remote....and bought a brand new replacement.....what woud you do to have the new remote recognize the existing receiving unit. maybe I am using the word reprograming incorrectly.

you would turn the key on with the drivers door open, press the valet/programming button once ( for most of the newer units), the LED should flash once and then press the lock button of the remote twice, this should auto-learn the new remote.....

as asked ( but unanswered) it would be helpful if you told us the model # of the unit you are messing with.....

whats your email addy?    i'll send you the programming guide....... assuming it is indeed a Matrix RSX 3.5

keep in mind tho that if it is a RSX 3.5 as i already mentioned the ONLY remote that will be compatible is the 472X... or of course the 479X LCD 2way remote.... the cello remote you described will not work
