I want to hook up a backup battery (dei 520T) to my 791xv, Will I have to disable the parking lights, they flash when the alarm goes off, Will they drain the BU battery if the power cables are cut under the hood,?

Can I disable the park lights without affecting the alarm..

best bet is a batt. back up siren....no probs.

if you're worried about the parklights draining the battery, then hook up the parklights through a relay. If the main power from the battery is cut, the only power the parklights will draw from the BUB will be the small current to activate the relay. The parklights will not flash if the main power in the car is cut.

Barfy,

Yes... if you use a separate backup battery for the alarm system (such as the DEI 520T), then you'll need to isolate the parking light power source from the alarm. In other words, instead of hooking the parking lights directly to the alarm (the stock setup), you'll instead need to have the alarm provide a ground for a separate relay (which you will provide), with that relay in turn switching on and off vehicle battery power for the parking lights.

In this way, the vehicle's battery powers the parking lights when the alarm is triggered... not the alarm system. If the vehicle's battery is disconnected during a theft attempt, the backup battery will power the alarm system and siren, but the parking lights will not flash.

Just a though... A backup battery is nice option over just a battery backup siren, because the backup battery will also allow the alarm system to send a trigger notification to a 2-way pager (if so equipped), whereas a simply battery backup siren won't do this.

Thanks guys for the replys.. :)

Any idea which wires on the alarm I would relay. I fitted the alarm myself and had to use diodes to get the doors to work. Or and schematic or wiring diagram on how to relay the lights would be great. I am not an installer, but I hook up my own sound systems and alarms when I change my cars..
