I currently have my alarm wired to open both doors when you disarm the alarm. What I want to do is change it to where the drivers opens on the first pulse then the passengers door opens with a second push of the unlock button (progressive unlock).
Here's how I have it wired currently:
-green wire from the alarm harness connected to the door lock wire
-blue wire from the alarm harness connected to two diodes, one leads to the all doors unlock wire the other leads to the door trigger wire to "wake up" the BCM
Before I make any changes I just wanted to clarify since it isn't specified in the installation manual, is the light blue wire (second unlock output)the wire I connect to the drivers door unlock or is it the blue wire from the 2 wire door lock harness? I am going to attach the "wake up" wire to the driver door unlock pulse, since it won't be needed on the second unlock pulse because the BCM will already be awake.
Please advise.
You would use the H2 light blue wire to control the passenger door's relay. The car uses a 5 wire unlock for each door, seperate. Right now you have the unlock output triggering both relays, correct? You should be able to just disconnect the wire that is triggering the passenger door's unlock relay and use the H2 light blue to control it.
Twelvotz......
I finally got a chance to make the changes to my door locks. I made the change per your recomendations. I hooked up the blue wire from the door lock/unlock harness to the tan drivers side unlock wire along with a diode isolated wire to the door trigger wire to "wake up" the BCM. I hooked up the H2 light blue to the gray/black passenger unlock wire. When I press the unlock button on the remote nothing happens, no matter how may times I try it. If I take the H2 light blue and change it to the ORANGE / black unlock all doors wire the first press of the unlock button on the remote "wakes up" the BCM then and 2nd press unlocks both doors.
What'cha think?
When I read the tech sheet for the 96 Camaro, I saw that they recommend controlling each door separate with a 5 wire circuit for unlock. I saw nothing about having to wake up the BCM. I am wondering if the wakeup you are talking about allows you to use a positive trigger to open the doors after the BCM wakes up (is this even possible?).
When I posted the suggestion I was under the assumption that each door had it's own 5 wire circuit to unlock. I was recommending removing the wire that is currently hooked to the passenger door 5 wire unlock relay and using the light blue in its place.
If your system is setup to wakeup the BCM and use a positive to unlock (again I do not know if this is possible) then you would have to disconnect your current unlock setup and rewire using a 5 wire for each door with the passenger door being controlled by the light blue and the drivers controlled by the current unlock wire.
I am really curious now, please keep us posted.
The BCM on the 96-97 Camaro makes for an interesting time when hooking up certain features of an alarm. What happens with the BCM is 35 seconds after the last door is closed the BCM turns off or "goes to sleep", GM says it's for security and to conserve power. Even if you are inside the car after the 35 seconds you can't open the door at the switch itself, it won't do anything. You have to manually slide the lock to open it. The only way to turn it on or "wake it up" is to open a door or turn on the ignition. So when I say "wake up" I only mean turn it on, I am still using the factory negative to lock/unlock.
So to wake up the alarm I split twos wire off the blue wire from the lock/unlock harness and diode isolated them. I ran one to the tan drivers side unlock wire and one to the door pin trigger wire, which in effect tells the BCM a door is open and "wakes up". For some reason this works perfectly when I do this using the ORANGE / black (all doors unlock), but doesn't when wiring for progressive unlock. The only thing I can conclude is it has something to do with the ORANGE / black wire is on the switch side of the BCM and the tan (drivers side unlock) and the gray/black (passenger side unlock) are on the door lock actuator side of the BCM.
I like the way you did that. Very well thought out. However to achieve 2 step door locks on the camaro you would have to control the motor directly.
