I am looking for what color and location the "Neutral Safety Wire" for a 1997 Cavalier. I couldnt find it in the database of wiring guides. But I did find this post in a search https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/forum_posts.asp?tid=60903&KW=Cavalier
It says Neutral Safety      NOT GROUNDING TYPE -      OEM SWITCH OPENS STARTER CIRCUIT.

What does this mean?

Thx!

I am looking for what color and location the "Neutral Safety Wire" is for a 1997 Cavalier. This is the wire that tells when the transmission is in park so the car will start, but I dont see one on the wiring diagram. So specifically, I want to find out where to hook the "Neutral Safety Switch Input" so that it shows a ground when in park or neutral.

Thx

If you've got an automatic cavalier it doesn't have that wire...as mentioned above the starter wire is open when the transmission is NOT in park or neutral.
That wire on your remote starter doesn't need to go to any wire on the car - the whole purpose for neutral safety wires was because some older model vehicles don't have a switch on the transmission like that, and if a remote start would power the starter wire with the car in gear, the starter would crank and the car would lurch forward.
Your cavalier will not have that problem. You can just hook that wire onto your ground wire, or wire a toggle switch in between so that you can turn off the remote start feature if you want to.

Ok, makes sense, but I need to make sure that I solder the starter wire before the OEM starter kill right? Otherwise I would bypass it completly.

If I solder the starter wire at the ign. switch like normal, would that not bypass this OEM starter kill?

If you are trying to install a remote starter, just running the system's starter output will not start the car. The OEM antitheft system is Passlock I. You should use a bypass module for that(or resistors).

Mr_Kite, the park/neutral safety switch is under the hood mounted to the transaxle...you'd have to make your starter wire connection between there and the starter itself if you wanted to bypass it...under the dash is perfectly safe on your car...it's also technically not a starter kill, just a neutral safety switch.

Bascially..

Connect the alarms neutral safety wire to ground, like said above. The wire is just to make the r/s idiot proof however GM already takes care of this for you.
Install the starter output of the r/s under the steering column where your getting IGN and ACC, anywhere under there is fine. There is no OEM starter kill that you would have to wire in front of, or behind. GM uses the passlock system which is more then a starter kill.
YOU STILL have to wire around the passlock system in the car. Search the site or the "downloads" section. The Autopage 855LCd instructions tell you how to do it. Like said above it's just a matter of adding a relay and a resistor of the correct value.

Just putting together what all the uys above said already. Hopes this helps.
