I am trying to troubleshoot a starter in a 2000 Mercury Sable.  I have a 2 button codealarm (GOH-FRDpc2002) remote.  If I hold both the lock and the unlock/trunk button the parking lights come on though it does not even try to start....The car was bought used and i am hearing that dealers usually disconnect the starters to avoid warranty.   The battery was also replaced a little while ago, so I do not know if the tach settings need to be fixed.  All of the other features work, unlock , lock and trunk release.

If the key has a chip/transponder in it the used car dealer may have removed the chip that was placed by the
receiver. Thats how some installers did this in 2000 with out a bypass kit.

Does the security light come on when you remote start the car?

If the park lights stay on (not just blink) Then the R/starter is activated.

It could be as simple as rehooking the start wire from the unit back to the starter of the car.

Who knows what the used stealership did.

Hope this helps -Mike

The parking lights do in fact come on and stay on.  It also shows the engine light, as if it is in aux.  If it is just the starter wire that is disconnected, where would I find it to reconnect it. I have never done this type of mobile electronics before....

it powers up so its not the fuse

cant remember the color for the code R/S

Just look for a thick wire that is capped off or cut

You can get the car info in the Vehicle Wiring

sorry its been years since i put in a code alarm

it may be White with red??????

sorry also the wiring should be below the steering wheel

Take off the plastic below *(the knee plate)* the wheel with a 7m and you will see a metal plate take that off also with an 8m.

You should see where they installed it

Sounds like the PATS on the vehicle is not being bypassed. If the PATS is not bypassed properly the vehicle will not even attepmt to crank. This is the way the PATS system works on the Sable/Taurus.

most units use 2 power wires and will still power up on 1 wire. ive seen it...ign turns on and no crank...blown fuse

i know you are going to say the security light is flashing.....but where did the installer get power for the bypass? was it that wire?  only takes a sec. to rule it out. imop
