Hi...I have a 1999 BMW 328i which I bought with a Compustar security system installed. I've only had my car for about three weeks now, but have driven it only four times because I can't get it started. I initially had a problem trying to understand how to use the remote and to learn how the system works, so there was a period of my alarm being very actively disturbing my neighbors. Now I'm afraid that maybe if my car is equipped with the starter kill function, maybe it has been activated and that's why I can't start my car? I can jump start my car, but to crank it using a key in the ignition is impossible. The guys at Compustar's toll free number aren't any help at all. How can you work for a company and answer a customer's question "I don't know"? You'd think that the employees would be educated on the product that they carry. But anyway...
The previous owner is with his wife on the maternity ward right now, so I can't get this answered by him. But would this be something that would stop the car from starting? (Are you laughing at me:) Well! You guys seem to know your car talk, and have impressed me with your knowledge, how about that? (smile:)

I forgot to mention...my alarm system is a compustar AS2000 I just want to know if there is a way of determining whether or not the added feature...the starter kill function has been added to the car. (Other than the car not starting:) Thanks!
If you jump into the car while it's armed and try to start it and there is no sign of crank, then it have the starter disable engaged. If you disarm the system and the same thing happens, then you have a faulty starter disable relay. If it's disarmed and the car cranks but doesn't start/stay running , you have an ignition problem ( maybe the installer installed an igntiion disable as well ).

Thanks so much for the information, Jeff. I did manage to get the car into Valet mode, which I'm discovering is still not the problem. My car is one of the BMW models with the battery in the trunk, and when they began doing that, they also added a Battery Safety Terminal. I've been doing some reading on how to repair it, if ir's the problem, but how do I find out whether or not it actually is? The Terminal works with the multiple restraint system, which would also cause the type of non-start problem that I am having.
I'm suspicious of this, because I was backing up in the driveway one day, but hadn't set my side mirrors, and while backing and setting them, I hit the garage pretty hard. Really hard. Thank goodness I didn't break any lights or dent my bumper or anything, but after reading my service manual by Bentley, I began to wonder about all of this.
Once I remove the negative then the positive terminals, would I be able to tell by touching alongside the positive cable if there is actually a disconnect? Or should I just go ahead and change it for the heck of it...one less thing to worry about? I guess that you can tell that I'm a female, but I'm not afraid to get my hands dirty or break a nail if I have to. (smile:)

I had a bad battery!!! LOL!! It was D-E-A-D!!! 
it's a good thing that I decided to check that before trying all of that other stuff that I thought was wrong. Wow!
