RS-7K2 valet switch missing

I have a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with an Omega RS-7K2 keyless entry/remote starter. The person I bought it from (2nd owner) said the system worked until he replaced batteries in the remotes. He figured the remotes just needed reprogramming. Okay, that makes sense. I read through the instructions but there is no valet switch to be found in this vehicle, and I looked in every place I could think of, no matter how illogical it seemed. I then looked at the unit itself and discovered that apparently there never was a valet switch installed, or at least it was removed. The input port for it is empty, with no sign of an unused switch or wiring anywhere.

It seems fairly straightforward to add that, but the problem is that I don't know what that type of plug/connector is called. I know it's like the kinds on the end of cordless phone batteries etc. but again, what is that type called? I can't find a parts list anywhere for this unit. If I know what I’m asking or looking for I can find it in a parts catalog.

Just head to your local install shop, I am sure they will have one laying around they would sell. These pieces are inexpesive and fairly easy to obtain. Even if it is not the same make and model as yours you just need a momentary switch that connects the 2 pins in that plug together when pushed. As long as it fits into that plug, you should be fine.

Yeah, I would say a good-spirited installer would probably give you a spare valet switch if you'd offer to run and get him a coffee or something.

It is awkward to do, but you can also perform your programming simply by shorting the two pins together with a screwdriver or other metal object.

It's hard to put the tool against and away from the terminals at the exact time the instruction say, but I have done it before; it is possible if you give it a couple of tries.

This did the trick. The guy gave me a new one for free. It gets the unit into programming mode, but I can't seem to get the handheld unit to work yet. But, I now have the switch.
