Hello every one. I am going to be doing a remote start install on a 1997 Chevy Tahoe and I was wondering what form of anti-theft systems GM employed on this vehicle. It is my understanding that Passlock II was started on the 1998 C/K trucks, Tahoes, Suburbans. So what did they use in the 1995-1997 run?

Looking at the wiring listed on this site
https://www.the12volt.com/installbay/detail.asp?info=alarm&year=1995-97&make=Chevrolet&model=Tahoe&ID=17475&type=Alarm
it appears that it is nothing more than pulsing the Tan wire that is located to the right of column for vehicles equiped with keyless entry. Is there any alarm renable that must also be connected? Where exactly is this wire located? Obvously to the right of the column, but more specifically, a particular harness to look for, connector to find the wire in, ect.

Thank you for the help,
Conrad

There's no Passlock system on the 97 Tahoe. If you have an OEM alrm system then you will need to bypass this with a ground wire to the TAN wire accoding to this diagram. If you do not have an OEM security system, you do nothing and continue with your installation.

Sounds simple enough, so it is nothing more than attaching the "(-) Factory Alarm Disarm" wire from the remote start unit to the TAN vehicle wire. And there is no alarm rearm wire that needs to be connected. Just makeing sure that I've got it 100% right.

Also does anyone have a more detailed description of what I am looking for the TAN wire. The diagram says "Keyless Entry right of Column" but more specifically what is it? A small box with a few wires coming out of it? A lot of wires? Color?

Thank you,

Conrad

First off I would see if your truck even has OEM security on it. Roll the windows down & lock the doors with the transmitter and then wait about 1 minute and open the door..... have the transmitter handy if it goes off. If nothing happens you have not security nd you don't need to find this tan wire. Also, another spot to find this wire if accessible is to find it through the door boot between the driver's door and the truck.
