This is my first post in here, so hello everybody :). I've read some topics and i decided to go with a Audiovox Prestige 686t alarm (best bang for the buck). I want to ask you what you know about this model.

I'm not looking for the remote start but i like the keyless entry. This is a hard alarm to install? because I will install it at a local shop (i'm from europe/romania) and here are no prestige alarms yet. Is it reliable? Any tips and tricks for this model? $70 is a good price? Aslo it says it have trunk release, does it work on all models? Well, i hope are no too many questions for you but i really want a good alarm because i live in an bad-fame area. Thank you!

Andrei

this is not an alarm. that is a remote starter with keyless entry and trunk.

but, it is a great remote starter though.

One thing I do like with Audiovox remote car starters is the pos. and neg. pulse door lock outputs. This feature in alot of cases makes hooking up the door locks easier. With the trunk release in most cases you will need a relay.

Post the make/model/year of vehicle and we can let you know, in our opinions, if the installation will be a difficult one or not.

Maybe the number is APS786T.This is a combo unit remote start and alarm. If youare just looking a alarm.Ther is 2 models I would choose from APS 596 and APS510A.If you are looking for good value for your money I would go with the APS510A.The main difference between the 2 is that the 596 comes with 1-2-way LCD transmitter and also a four button carbon fibre transmitter. The 510 comes with 1 four button carbon fibre transmittter with flashlight and 1 four button carbon fibre transmitter. As for hooking up your locks and what is needed you need to know the year make and model of the vehicle.

Yes, I second what john o'grady said---little point in paying extra for remote start if you're not going to use it.

I've been installing Audiovox product for years now. It's reliable, installer-friendly, and priced right. Very happy with their stuff. You do see a remote go bad now and then.

As far as extra parts, that depends on what type of car, and how many fancy features you're going to hook up.

Any good installation shop should have any required extra wiring, relays, and so forth on hand.

Have you verified that your local shop will install an alarm you've purchased somewhere else? Some shops won't do it at all, and some might charge extra.........ask them ahead-of-time, and also see what they have to sell.

If they install your alarm, and it fails, they might charge you to remove and replace it...........if they install their own system, they will probably guarantee the entire job.
