dea,can is correct.

--The only way to arm the factory alarm is to lock the doors using the factory remote.

--The only TWO ways to disarm the alarm are to:
A. Unlock the doors with the factory remote, or
B. Turn on the ignition.

Bypasskit.com will soon have a module out that will control the locks and factory alarm on these cars. Until then you have to use the factory remote to arm and disarm. If you can't wait, there are modules designed to wire directly into the factory remote and trigger it's lock and unlock buttons as well as provide it with a 3 volt power source.

What about using the Compustar feature

Unlock before start lock after start?

Would that work?

Thanks

My memory is pretty bad but I think that it will. I installed an Ultra start and it to has that feature. I'm about 90% sure it worked on the last cobalt we did.

No it won't work. The only way to disarm the factory alarm is to use the factory remote first or start the car. Unfortunately, starting the car usually causes the horn to honk once first before it disarms and may set a service theft system light on the dash. Activating the locks only unlocks the car and does nothing to the alarm. The factory alarm will arm if you use the factory remote to lock the doors. On some Cobalts and Pursuits you can program the car to auto arm or if you relock the doors with a remote starter after they are already locked the alarm will arm. This is why the new module is needed. The company that makes Astrostart may also have a module out that interfaces with the factory alarm on these cars.
