Most Remote Start require a TACH or Voltage Sense hook-up to detect that the Engine has Started.  This detection method will keep the Engine running the required set time.

It would also help if you Post:
Year, Make & Model of Vehicle & what you are installing

If it's running for 30 seconds, it's probably not the tach. I sure hope that if the unit thinks that it's over reving it will shut off the car before 30 seconds ! Check to see if your unit has a diagnostics feature that will tell you why the remote starter failed or turned off. I had this problem before in a vehicle and it turned out that the brake wire was giving 12 volts after the car had started running about 20 seconds - 1 minute into the run time.

The tach wire should read 1-6 volts in AC on your DMM. You can use an injector wire as well for the tach signal if you want.
