Usually depends on Vehicle or Installer..........

You would probably want to put it where anyone can see it.

Column cover seems to work, have recently put some in tops of door panels though. Done a couple of the scanning leds in dash.  Most common factory spot is the security light gauge cluster, unless its a vw. Some vw's have them right next to the locks on top top of the door panel.

I used one of those blue LED bars that scan back and forth, and it's mounted on the dash, at the windshield, drivers dife.  Very visible.

black: the cheap things that are led involved will get your car broken into because the theifs see them in the cheap auto parts store, granted if you have an alarm he will probley leave but thats a good start to his day to see the cheap stuff because people that spend hundreds of dollars on a alarm don't cut the led that comes with it and buy a 10 dollar gaudy led. mine is on the forefront trim of the dash in the center of the dash, and a tip is to use female and male disconnects in case you have to take the dash apart as i did to glass it and other things.
