hello everyone... what is the difference between IGN 1 and IGN 2?  which would be the one the key is on just before the starter is engaged? and which one stays on when the car goe to the off (engine kill) but the radio and fans are still on?

i have 5 wires at the ignition cylinder...(honda accord 96) which one is ign 1 and which is ign 2?

All ignition wires are powered when the key is in the run position and when cranking.  They just control different circuits of the car.  The radio is on an accessory wire.  The igniton wire colors are BLACK / YELLOW for ign#1 and yellow for ign#2.  Both of these wire must be hooked up if using a remote start.

hey auex, thanks for the quickness...but in a starter-cut-off, the starter wire should be cut and a relay placed in the middle right?  but when the key goes that momentary foward(cranking), and then back...what wires did it make and what wires does it come back to rest at, that keep the engine running?  is it acc...ign 1 (on)...ign 2 (cranking) back to ign 1 the order it goes?

i know one is contant +12V  but what are the remaining 4 wires?  there are only three different positions...or not?

What exactly are you trying to do?  If it is a starter kill relay then yes the relay would wire between the key side of the starter wire and the motor side of the starter wire.  What you would do is cut the BLACK/ white wire ( starter ) and put one end to pin 30 of the relay and put the other end to pin 87a of the relay ( depending on what type of starter kill you are doing).  Then you would hook up the alarms ground when armed wire ( or a negative triggerswitch )to pin 86.  You would hook up a true source of ign to pin 85.

|              12V|white               |+  |ignition harness            |
|          STARTER|BLACK/ white         |+  |ignition harness            |
|         IGNITION|BLACK / YELLOW        |+  |ignition harness            |
|        ACCESSORY|yellow              |+  |ignition harness            |

Last wire of the bunch is also a constant wire I believe.

First turn of the igntion cylinder triggers the IGNITION wire and the 2nd turn triggers the ACCESSORIES for the HVAC and the 3rd turn enables the STARTER wire.

hey jeff...still stumbling with this thing. posted_image  posted_image

but i tested out the harness with a dmm, and this is what i got

white-12v at all times.   on the first click, WHITE/ black wire gets 11.2 volts.  on the second click, yellow wire gets 11.2v ( and the wht/blk remains @ 12v).   on cranking motion, the blk/wht (starter) wire gets 11.5v  (for the duration of the key being foward, and when released...a blk/yel wire now has 13.4v which wasn't available before, and the rest of the wires with the exception of the starter wire now have 13.5 volts).  when the key is turned one click back (turn engine off) the yellow and blk/yel wire read 0v, but when the key is moved foward again (not cranking) the yellow wire has 11.2 v again...but not the blk/yel.  soo as far as the schematic i got...is the wht/blk wire to be bypassed or joined to another? in the relay secuence i got frm u it doesn't mention that wire.  is the blk/yel wire the one that keeps the engine on?

your help is most definitely appreciated.

i'll post pics of the install once done with it...posted_image

thanks.

OK... I just did a 2002 Honda today with the 5 wire ignition harness and this is what I have:

  • WHITE is 12 volts constant
  • YELLOW is 2nd IGN
  • BLACK/ WHITE is the STARTER
  • BLACK / YELLOW is the IGN # 1
  • WHITE/ BLACK is the ACCESSORY
