Ready Remote Intermittent Operation

I have a Ready Remote (DesignTech / Directed) model 23927 that I recently purchased from Target to replace an older remote starter that was having some problems. I installed it in a 96 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 liter. I was replacing an old DesignTech remote starter, so many of the wires did not have to be changed to plug into the new system. The trouble I am having now is that it will work great about 10% of the time, but the other 90% of the time, it will not respond at all (Even sitting in the vehicle less than a foot from the unit & antenna). I have installed many remote starters before, and am sure my wiring is correct. The unit is well grounded to the body and I have 2 remotes with new batteries. I'm sure it is something wrong with the unit. The store no longer carries these since they are out of season and I do not want to send it in to be repaired since they charge a $20 repair fee. I looked inside the unit and see a little screw that looks like it can be adjusted (possibly for frequency adjustment). Is this something that may fix my problem? How do I know how to set this? Trial and error?

I tried something that I hope will work. The unit was working from inside the vehicle, and I was able to get at that screw while the unit was hooked up. I turned it left gradually until the unlock button quit working. I made note of this setting and then turned it right until it quit working. The difference between the 2 points was 1 1/8 turns. I turned it back about 9/16 of a turn which should be the center between the two. It seems to work for right now, but I have not tried it outside of the garage yet. I will post later to let you know how it turned out. Please let me know if there are any other suggestions.
