Hi,

I am planning on installing an aftermarket alarm and remote start in my 1997 Ford Expedition
which was broken into recently :(

I want to get one of these alarms and need some opinions ...

1) CRIMESTOPPER CS-2014TW2
2) PRESTIGE AUDIOVOX APS997
3) PRESTIGE APS786T

Also, I think I will need the 555U Module for the remote start, correct?

I would also like to have my horn output together with the siren - I did not notice a horn output on
the Prestige alarms, so it is possible with these?

Also, since this is a big SUV will the shock sensor detect impact from the back tailgate
window?

Is the wiring pretty straight forward otherwise? Thanks in advance guys...

I would suggest you go with a dei product.I know folks have had different results with crimestopper and audiovox brands.from what i understand audiovox customer support is almost none..Crimestopper is still a lil behind on technology..

I strongly agree with mrcllusb, but if not, yes I think there is a way to wire a horn output with relays I am sure.  I am not sure if you could, but if it is possible to wire two shock sensors on the same input??? Correct me if I am wrong please I have never done it.

Go with the APS-997 it's the best unit there.

Also there is a horn output on both those Audiovox units and and you can choose either the horn or the siren or both at the same time. As far as the shock sensor you will only need one depending where you mount it it will cover the entire vehicle, but you can always add another one as long as you diode isolate them. You will need a transponder bypass unit.  And yes that is a pretty easy vehicle to do.

As far as quality is concerned the audiovox two way remotes are bulletproof unlike the garbage that DEI is selling now (791xv). And if you are going to install it yourself DEI won't even talk to you.

Have you looked into a Compustar or UltraStart system ? Both of these are also high on most installer's list along with the DEI brands.

You will need a universal type bypass module so you will loose a key to the system.

Use a relay triggered by the siren output for this option. The only thing is that everytime you lock/unlock the doors the horn will also sound along with the siren.

If you want to detect impact on the back of the vehicle you will need to add another sensor to the back area otherwise you can use a glass breakage sensor for the back glass.

There are 2nd IGN & ACC wires that you need to power up & make sure that you use only a DMM on the vehicle to isolate trigger wires ( like door trigger) and potentially damaging the circuit.

I am an ultra start fan I would suggest looking into them. Basic to install trouble free and programing is simple.  I also have mixed feelings on crimestopper's products I am currently a dealer for them but my crystal ball says thats going to change soon.  IMO I think dei is over- rated and for a diy your better off to avoid there products. I haven't had much experience with presitge, but I have no complaints about themposted_image.

I actually have a Prestige Alarm in my Civic and it has been trouble free for the past 3 years so I think I would want to go with the Prestige Alarm, preferrably the APS997 mentioned above. My only question concerning that system is, does the two way remote (the one with the lcd), alert you when someone attempts to break into your vehicle?

Has anyone else used the APS997 on here - what are your experiences? Thanks alot guys, you have been very helpful.

Yes it does alert you and it has a lot of other features like the ability to check the temperature inside the car trough the remote. I have installed a bunch of them and not one has come back  with a problem.

Okay I am going with the APS997 but how on earth does it check the temperature?! LOL, do I have to buy another module or such for that feature?

Thanks alot guys, I will let yall know when I get the system and start installing it and how everything turns out. It's been a few years since I installed a full featured alarm system but I am sure everything will start to look firmiliar and of course there is always the12volt.com I can come crying to lol.

Thanks again. BTW, here is the result of not having an alarm and the reason as to why I am getting one now before I put stereo equipment back!

F***ers took my 15" L7 Solobaric which had a big hole in it but my buddy who does autobody fixed it with resin lol. They also took my Directed 1100d5 - 5 Channel amp. Lucky they did not mess with the head unit - it's an N2. I had the face with me, so I guess they figured it was not worth their time.
