I have a Clifford AvantGuard 5 and the following problem. When the car is shut off the doors unlock. Now if I disable the unlock feature on shut off, the doors won't unlock but they unlock when I press the button to lock/unlock on the remote. My question is, can the status for the door lock be changed so that the alarm would use the driver door lock to determine if the car is locked or not so when I press the button on the remote, the car will lock and not unlock first ?
i'm not sure if i fully understood your question, but usually it is up to your alarm system.
1. is it factory installed or not, if not make sure that you find your installation instructions book!?
2. does this problem just appeared or is this the way you got the car and its always been like this?
no, the ignition controlled door locks only works as an on -off feature not controlable. not even new cars unlock doors automatically they lock but only aftermarket devices can unlock the doors auto controlled by the ignition.
hope this answers the question.

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.
I am talking about the AvantGuard...If you go into the options you can lock the doors either when the engine is started or when you reachcertain RPM. Clifford also has an unlock option which can unlock the doors when the ignition is turned off.
Now, if you don't use the automatic unlock, what happens is that when I press the remote, the car will first unlock. I'd like to lock or unlock based on driver's door so that if the door is locked the car unlocks and if the door is locked the car will unlock regardless of the other doors.
