you have to make sure you have givin the relays the right wires . meanign what you test for is possitive when you press the switch. your right with the setup although you only need ten amps per relay and if you have the wires and relays set up right the pin 30 and 87a wires always touch meaning throught the relay it completes the circut of that wire you cut . so check this out do it like and make sure

basically test disconnect the relays and all wires going to relay except for the two possitive which should aqctually be on pin 86 and 87 not 85 and 87 but it should still work the way you have it. ok that wire you tested and cut test it again and what your looking for is when you press the switch which side the wire you cut give 12 volts the wire one sire that does give 12 volts you have to connect to pin 87a of the relay the middle pin on a five pin relay. and the other side that will either show ground or nothing you have toconnect it to pin 30 of relay after you do this on each relay the door locks should work .from the factory switchagain. not both relay have to be hokked up with the switch side of wire connected to pin 87a and the motor side of wire connected to pin 30 on each relay. or the door locks will not work after you figure out that the door locks work you can now connect the negative output from alarm to the pin 85 of each relay controlling lock and unlock. if the constant is still good and shows 12 volts that your good to go and your door locks should work if when you set up the relays and the door locks still dont work test wires with relays connected and see if the 87a pin shows 12 volts when you press the d/l switch if it does not than you have to check fuses cause somethign is wrong.and also if you check pin 30 of each relay and you get pos when you press the switch that your wires are backwords and your pos feed wire should be on the pin 87a of the relay. any more help email me o yea  print this

mecp certification is not always needed. I have it and it has not helped me out at all. my experience out shines it.

ok did what u said but now i think i figured out alittle bit of the problem i did have the lock wires from the switch backwards but now as soon as i plug in the relay the fuse pops .....heres what i think i purchased two relays from autozone ...made by blazer for their lighting systems they are 12v 30a ones but the terminals are different i think heres how its listed on the package..

term. 87 and 87a power to lamps

term. 30 fused power

term 86 switched power

term. 85 to ground

now if i hook 87 to the lock wire that has no power and 87a to the one that has power i should then hook 30 and 85 to fused power and 86 to (-) output of my alarm.....correct or do i need different relays to do this ......thanx for your help so far its been great .....tom

Holy smokes...you need to make sure your relays are SPDT. It doesnt sound like your relays are. 86 and 87 on each relay to 12V. 87a to switch side of lock wire 30 to motor side of lock wire. 87a to switch side of unlock wire 30 to motor side of unlock wire. Your relays are merely throwing 12v to your switch when you pop in the fuse which would describe your situation as your switch rests at ground.....Im out. Mel

yes i understand that but what i am saying is are they spdt or not it sounds like they might be just have to use 30 and 85 fused power and 87a to switch side of lock wire and 87 to motor side of lock wire and (-) output from alarm to 86 correct or should i just pick up some relays from radioshack .......thanx for your time anyone who can help

By your description of your relays your locks will not work. DO NOT USE 30 as the 12v feed. Only 87. Your relays are silly...that is, if they work they way you described. Get new relays at CCY, BBY, Good Guys, Tweeter, Magnolia Hifi, or any decent autosound shop in town. No more than $13  a piece-full retail.

ok no problem ...the way it sounds to me is that instead of 87 being 12v they made 30 12v b/c there is continuity between 87a and 87 just like there would be if you took a standard relay and tested for continuity between term. 87a and 30 ....am i right or wrong im new to the relay stuff but thats just the way it seems to me ....i have been working on this car for long enough tonight my brain is smoking w/ this relay stuff.....thanx for your time

If that is the case the lets assume that 30 to 12v and 87a to switch and 87 to motor. You should check continuity with the relay energized to get your final answer.
