Does anyone know off hand what door lock setup the 1989 Corvette Conv. has?  I am going to install an alarm on this car and would like to prewire my relays for the door lock system before getting started.  Also does anyone have any tips for installing an alarm on this car?  Basically is there anything out of the ordinary?  Thank you to all in advance for your responses..

Harvey

Thanks alot for the quick response! Just so I can be sure what you mean by positive triggers, which diagram from the door lock wiring section should I follow the 5 wire positive, 3 wire positive etc?  Sorry, Thanks again

Been a while, but last time I did one, it was 5 Wire Reversal

Light Blue = Lock
Black = Unlock
Either Kick Panel..................Test from Passenger Door Switch

sorry guys but I am a Newbee, I have installed a couple of alarms before but this is a totally diffrent animal.  The first post I got said positive door trigger locks and the second said 5 wire reversal.  Being a newbee I am looking at the diagrams and see a posted_image 5 Wire Alternating 12 Volts Positive Door Locks and a 5 wire reverse polarity/acuators.  To me it sounds like the first reply was telling me to go with the 5 wire alternating positive door locks and the second was telling me to go with the 5 wire reverse polarity?  Sorry if this is a stupid question and if I beat this subject into the ground.   Thanks

I suppose I'm wrong, it is infact 5 wire reversal mastered from the passenger switch.

When installing an aftermarket keyless entry alarm on a 1989 corvette equipped with Vats, do you have to disable the vats system?  If you have to does anyone have a diagram of how to do this or can someone help by telling me what needs to be done?

Thanks Harvey

If you are just Installing a KEYLESS Entry, you DO NOT have to disable the VATS.
You are just wanting to LOCK & UNLOCK??

I think I might be confused by calling it vats, I am refering to the factory alarm system that came in the 89 corvette which if you had the doors locked and reached through the window and unlocked the car from the inside avoiding putting the key in the door (like keyless would) then the horn would honk etc.  I was just thinking that if I installed keyless then the factory alarm would go off, so I would have to do something to prevent this.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Harvey

sorry I am a newbee to this kind of thing, saw that you use the lt green wire to disarm the factory alarm, However the alarm/keyless that I am looking at is the clifford arrow 5 and on the list of outputs that it has on the dei website it says that it does not have a factory disarm output?  What would I do in this case?  Thanks for all your help and advice.  Harvey

you can use the unlock wire also but you have to diode the circuits with 1amp

So if I use the unlock wire (-) from the alarm and I place a 1 amp diode inline from the unlock wire to the factory alarm disarm then I should be ok?  Do I need to put any other diodes in place?  Sorry I am really new to the use of diodes, but this sounds like a great shortcut to get this done.

u need 2, 1amp / to split  one wire going to unlock wire  and the other wire going to the disarm wire with the silver band facing the switches.
