Subject: 06 Impala alarm w/factory system?

Earlier this week I came outside to find the tires of my 06 Impala SS gone.  I want to have a good security system installed and keep getting conflicting opinions when I call and ask what my options are.

The 06 Impala comes with a remote start built in and that's where the differing opinions are coming into play.  I've had a couple of shops tell me that all they can do is to install a security system but that I would then have to use the remote for the alarm but continue to use my factory remote for remote starting.  They also said that I would have to disable the alarm before using the remote start.

I want an upgraded alarm and the ability to remote start while only having to carry one remote.  Is it possible and what brand would you reccommend? :errr:

Thanks

You can add a security system and continue to use your factory remote. The Pursuit PRO9232A works with your fatcory remote. Here's the installation manual: https://www.audiovox.com/manuals/installation/1286627.pdf

Thanks for the reply.  I don't want to go the route of installing my own so I'm going to be limited to the brands that the shop carries.  I know that Viper makes the 330v but I've read a couple of bad reviews from other people.  I'd rather go the route of having a new alarm and remote start combo installed if possible.

I called another shop and they said that it wouldn't be a problem to add a new alarm and remote start combo so now I don't know what to think.  Maybe they know something the other shops don't, or maybe they don't know what they're talking about.

Can anyone confirm or debunk that you can install an alarm and remote start on an 06 Impala without interfering with anything?

If your not planning to have remote start the best DEI alarm would be the Viper 350HV, if you were going to do remote start too...I'd say the viper 791

Does that mean that I can install an alarm with remote start even though the car already has a remote start from the factory?

Yeah, you could install an aftermarket remote start, even though there is already one from the factory.....I don't think that would hurt anything.

The aftermarket system would give you the advantage of greater range, and the possiblity of a two-way remote.

However, the GM remote starter is superior in many ways. I believe it automatically knows to crank the heat or AC----with an aftermarket system, it would just stay the way you left it when you parked.

Also, the GM monitors many engine parameters, like coolant temperature and oil pressure, and will shut down if there's a problem.

The Pursuit PRO-9232A is an excellent piece; I have installed many. If you need to go with DEI, their Hornet 700T and Automate AM1 are similar, although it costs extra to get a starter kill or a siren.

Your Impala should already have a factory alarm, which will sound the horn if the doors are opened.

To prevent things like wheel theft, I'd consider one of those add-on alarms, which already includes a shock sensor that detects vibrations.............then consider a proximity sensor (which detects people near/in the car).............and a tilt sensor (which detects jacking, or raising the car with a tow truck)........and possibly a pager.

After thinking about it I've decided to go with an add on alarm. I like the factory remote start and figure that their is less potential for problems with an add on.

My only question now, is there a way to add paging with an add on system?

Yes, there are separate, add-on pagers available.

I've never installed one before, but I would imagine it would either A: tie into the door, trunk, and hood pinswitches just like the alarm; B: tie into the alarm's siren output, or C: both.

I can't see any reason why you can't have it along with the add-on alarm.

We have sold and installed many add-on pager systems ( Millenium 3000 ) for our customers and these have FM band frequencies for added range and they monitor the doors, hood, trunk and also add-on devices such as tilt sensors, impact or perimeter sensors.

Thanks for the replies, these are some great forums and I'm glad to have found them.

I just wish I knew why I had two shops telling me that there was no way to add to my current factory system while only having to use one remote. I've dealt with both shops in the past and always thought their service was good.

If I could find someone who has actually done work on an 06 Impala I'd really feel good.

I just thought of another question. What will keep my add on alarm from sounding when I use my factory remote start?

Some aftermarket systems have a DISARM wire that requires a (-) signal from a remote start that will temporarily turn off the alarm system until the remote start is activated.

Many shops don't do add-on alarms. I've been in the business for 8 years and have never done one. Usually, it is easier and more effective to just add a new system in with new remotes. Now that more and more cars are coming equiped with remote start, remote power sliding doors, and keys with a remote control built in it may be something that will be getting done more often.
